Site won't open

If a site won't open, it can mean dozens of different things, from a temporary hosting glitch to an expired domain or a problem with your own internet. The key question is whether the site is down for everyone or just for you. The answer decides who fixes it: you, the host, or no one, because a brief outage clears on its own.

What causes it

There are many causes: an overloaded or maintenance-mode server, an expired domain or hosting plan, broken DNS, a bug in the site's code, or simply your ISP being unreachable for a moment. The exact reason usually shows up as an error code in the browser.

How to fix it

  1. First find the scale: check the site with the tool below or open it over mobile data.
  2. Note the exact error the browser shows (timeout, refused, DNS), since it points to the cause.
  3. Reload the page, clear the cache and cookies, and try another browser or incognito.
  4. Flush your DNS and restart the router, and turn off any VPN or extensions.
  5. If the site is yours, check that the domain and hosting are paid, the account is not suspended, and review the cPanel logs.
  6. If it is down for everyone and the code points to the server, contact hosting support with the details.
